APSCU Responds To Investigation On Misleading Internet Recruitment Of Veterans

06/27/2012

APSCU - June 27, 2012

Washington, D.C. – Former Congressman Steve Gunderson, the president and chief executive officer of the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities (APSCU) today issued the following statement in response to the investigation by state attorneys general regarding misleading Internet recruitment of veterans:

"The faculty and staff at career colleges and universities are deeply proud to have the opportunity and privilege to educate and train America’s veterans and prepare them for success in civilian life.  Since the enactment of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, 152,000 veterans, spouses and dependents have chosen to attend private sector schools and we value our relationship with these heroes.  And because of the significance we place on our relationship with the men and women who have worn our nation’s uninform, APSCU wants to make clear that we condemn any activity by companies that mislead veterans, and we continue to work with our members and other stakeholders on initiatives designed to promote clear and unambiguous communications with students and prospective students.

“Last year, APSCU convened a taskforce to develop a self-regulatory vehicle to eradicate such condemnable practices.  APSCU is in the process of taking tangible steps to continue critical conversations to improve accountability and ensure best practices for the sector for marketing, recruiting and communications to our students, including veterans."
