The Chronicle of Higher Education, February 3, 2014. The for-profit provider of higher education said on Friday that it had eliminated 117 jobs in San Diego, Denver, and Clinton, Iowa, where it operates a campus of Ashford University. The cuts were made in Ashford’s operations and in the company’s headquarters.
Bridgepoint, like several other for-profit-college companies, has seen declining enrollments in recent years amid increased scrutiny from Congress and federal regulators.
Most students attend Ashford University, with a majority taking classes online.
Bridgepoint’s colleges have seen declining enrollment — partly by design to meet accreditation standards. At the end of September, the colleges had 68,566 students — down from 91,358 a year earlier.
