On Wednesday, November 28th, 2012, Grantham University is hosting the inaugural meeting of the Blue Ribbon Task Force for Military and Veterans Education at the National World War I Museum in Kansas City, Mo.
What: Established by Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities, the mission of the taskforce is to ensure that all service members, veterans, or family members utilizing their earned education benefits are provided with the quality education they deserve at every institution of higher education.
Who: Meeting attendees include the taskforce co-chairs, Dr. Jeff Cropsey and Mr. James Hendrickson. Dr. Jeff Cropsey, Cpt. USA (Ret.), is the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at Grantham University and Chair of Public Affairs with the Council of College and Military Educators. James Hendrickson, Lt. Col. USAFR, is Vice President of Military Education and Executive Director of the CTU Wounded Warrior Scholarship at Colorado Technical University.
Other attendees include representatives from: Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Consortium, Student Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities, Education Corporation of America, Kaplan University, American Public University System, ECPI College of Technology, DeVry University, Sullivan University, Harrison College, University of Phoenix, and National Association of State Approving Agencies.

Why: The launch of the Post 9/11 GI Bill and the emphasis on continuing education has resulted in more and more service members and veterans returning to college. It is important for all colleges and universities serving this population to understand their challenges and needs and how best to serve them. The primary goal of the task force is to develop a series of best practices for veterans’ education to be used by not only APSCU schools but all colleges and universities.
