City College of San Francisco Is Approaching Bankruptcy, Auditors Find

09/19/2012

The Chronicle of Higher Education - September 19, 2012

A state audit has found that the City College of San Francisco is nearing bankruptcy, in part because it employs almost twice as many faculty members as its peers do, and pays them better, but without educating more students, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The review, conducted by a team that helps educational institutions manage financial problems, found that the college had “provided salary increases and generous benefits with no discernible means to pay for them,” says the newspaper. City College has recently been struggling to keep its accreditation.
